The Schipperke is part of the Toy (Spitz) group. The Schipperke is a dog with Above Average problem solving abilities. The trainability of the Schipperke is Above Average. It was breed to be good for Companionship, Family Pet, The Schipperke lifestyle is Prefers to be where owners are; adaptable to any climate except extreme heat
Schipperkes should not be overfed, otherwise they are a healthy breed. It is important that when contacting a Schipperke breeder that you express health concern issues and ask the breeder what they are doing in order to help mimimize them.
Please don't purchase your Schipperke from a petstore which commonly are known to support Schipperke puppy mills. Doing so only promotes inproper breeding ethics and promotes current Schipperke health issues. The AKC, UKC, FCI, CKC, SKC, WWKC, FIC registries recognize the Schipperke breed standard.

Country of Origin:
Belgium - From the province of Flanders, probably evolved from northern spitz dogs of early Viking days. Name is Flemish for used the dogs to hunt, herd caribou, guard flocks and were also employed as draft and sled dogs. Introduced into Britain in 1889.

Alert, loyal, and is insatiably inquisitive.The breed will impress you with its personable ways and unending energy.
Temperment:
The breeds temperament shows it to be a positive dog, exhibiting very strong likes and dislikes, capable of making a decision about a situation.The breed is fond of children if properly socialized and supervised and frequently will attach itself to the children of the family, becoming their loving, loyal and watchful companion.
Coat:
Abundant and dense, with longer hair on the neck, shoulders, chest and back of rear legs.
Care
Comb or brush the coat regularly with a firm bristle brush, dry shampoo when necessary.
