Country of Origin: Great Britain - Developed as far back as the 17th century as water dogs, Originally descended by natural selection from dogs brought to Newfoundland by explorers, settlers and fishermen. Also known as the Lesser Newfoundland, the black Water Dog and the St. John's Dog. Labs are now in the top five breeds in both USA and England. Used as hunter, companion, drug detector, obedience competitor and guide dog for the blind.

Character: This breed is obedient, sociable, affectionate, and loyal. They have a very keen sense of smell.

Temperment: This dog gets along well with children, other dogs, and any household pets. They are not great watchdogs.

Coat: Thick and dense and weather-resistant. Can be black, yellow or chocolate brown. A small white marking on the chest is permissible.

Care Brush the coat once a week, twice weekly if the dog is shedding.

Colour: Black, chocolate, yellow

Comments: Loving, people oriented. Highly energetic, needs lots of exercise, very adaptable. Very trusting, social, great guard, hunting and hearing dogs. Wonderful personality. Versatile. Very good with children, especially young ones. Loves water and .
