Country of Origin: Germany - Used for hunting as early as the 1700's. Called the Kurzhaar in Germany, it was bred to hunt on land or water. It was originally a coarser dog, the cross of the Spanish Pointer and the Bloodhound. Later, English Pointer was added which made it a faster, keener nosed dog.

Character: The German Shorthaired Pointer is intelligent, eager to learn, loyal and brave.

Temperment: This dog gets along well with children, other dogs, and any household pets. It can also play a role as a watchdog.

Coat: Coat can be brown, light brown, dark brown, white, or black. Brown, white or yellow markings are permissible.

Care Occasional brushing and keeping the ears clean is all that is required.

Colour: Solid liver, liver/white w/wo ticking or roaning

Comments: This breed boasts the most dual champions of any breed in the USA. Affectionate, good with children, has immense energy and desire to hunt. May become destructive if bored by confinement and lack of exercise. Very longlived (more than 16-18 years). maintained.
