Because of their short faces, Tibetan Spaniels may encounter breathing problems. This breed is also prone to overheating. It is important that when contacting a Tibetan Spaniel breeder that you express health concern issues and ask the breeder what they are doing in order to help mimimize them.

Please don't purchase your Tibetan Spaniel from a petstore which commonly are known to support Tibetan Spaniel puppy mills. Doing so only promotes inproper breeding ethics and promotes current Tibetan Spaniel health issues. The AKC, UKC, FCI, CKC, SKC, WWKC, FIC registries recognize the Tibetan Spaniel breed standard.

Country of Origin: Tibet (China) - Fostered and loved in the monasteries of Tibet for many centuries, this little dog was probably the original from which Pugs and Pekingnese were developed. Just as the Tibetan Terrier is not a terrier, the Tibetan Spaniel is not a spaniel. Owned by the 13th Dalai Lama and bred as watchdogs and bedwarmers. First brought to Great Britain in 1920's, recognized by CKC in 1979 and AKC in 1983.

Character: Although cautious with strangers, this dog does not bark a lot and jump all over them. It is confident, watchful, intelligent, and brave.

Temperment: Provided proper socialization has taken place, this breed gets along fine with other household pets. It is also good with children.

Coat: The coat is double, long and silky-haired. The most common color is golden, but any color is acceptable.

Care Regular grooming with a brush is required. Make sure the ear passages are kept clean.

Comments: Affectionate little dog, makes a great companion. Easy maintenance coat. Alert, does not bark excessively. Somewhat timid toward strangers, not a guard dog. Exceptionally clean, no doggy odor. Bitches come in heat only once a year. Has a thick, .
