The Golden Retriever is susceptible skin allergies, thyroid problems, cataracts and other eye problems and hip dysplasia. It is important that when contacting a Golden Retriever breeder that you express health concern issues and ask the breeder what they are doing in order to help mimimize them.

Country of Origin: Great Britain - Developed in 19th century - Became Golden Retriever in 1920 - Wonderfully versatile dog - Good retriever, upland game hunter, guide dog for blind, and makes a loving easygoing pleasant companion and family pet. In the USA this breed dominates obedience competitions with flashy animation, quick reflexes, precision, trainability, and intense desire to please.

Character: This breed is very self-confident, sensitive, intelligent, and adaptable. Barking is infrequent.

Temperment: This dog gets along well with children, other dogs, and any household pets. It can be belligerent with unknown visitors.

Coat: May be golden or cream-colored. It is smooth and wavy and the undercoat is weather-resistant.

Care Regular grooming with a brush and comb is required. Make sure the ears are kept clean.

Colour: Various shades of lustrous gold

Comments: Large dog requiring daily exercise because of energy level; not for the apartment dweller. Wonderful family pet, very loyal, great with children (high pain tolerance). Needs companionship of humans; deprived of this they can become hyperactive and .
