It was breed to be good for Family Pet, Protection, Sports, The Newfoundland lifestyle is Prefers outdoors, but adapts well to indoor or outdoor living
The Newfoundland is susceptible to hip dysplasia and hereditary heart disease. It is important that when contacting a Newfoundland breeder that you express health concern issues and ask the breeder what they are doing in order to help mimimize them.
Please don't purchase your Newfoundland from a petstore which commonly are known to support Newfoundland puppy mills. Doing so only promotes inproper breeding ethics and promotes current Newfoundland health issues. The AKC, UKC, FCI, CKC, SKC, WWKC, FIC registries recognize the Newfoundland breed standard.

Country of Origin:
Canada - Developed to aid fishermen from Labrador, St. John's, and Newfoundland. Believed to descend from the early Tibetan Mastiff and large Viking bear dogs brought over by Leif Ericsson in 1001 AD. During the 19th century were used to replenish the dwindling numbers of Alpine rescue dogs at the Hospice of St. Bernard after distemper decimated their ranks.
Character:
This dog is good-humored, gentle, friendly with all living creatures, and will protect its family if necessary.
Temperment:
This breed will be a good friend to any other dog, animal, child, or visitor with good intentions.
Coat:
Coat is greasy and dense, medium-length and water-resistant.
Care
Regular grooming with a brush and comb is required to prevent tangles.
