Prone to zinc deficiency, which can cause death, some are born deaf, obsessive compulsive behaviors, such as tail chasing. Some bloodlines are prone to slipped patella (dislocation of the kneecaps). Some male Bull Terriers have an overabundance of testosterone, this can be subdued with neutering. It is important that when contacting a Bull Terrier breeder that you express health concern issues and ask the breeder what they are doing in order to help mimimize them.
Please don't purchase your Bull Terrier from a petstore which commonly are known to support Bull Terrier puppy mills. Doing so only promotes inproper breeding ethics and promotes current Bull Terrier health issues. The AKC, UKC, FCI, CKC, SKC, WWKC, FIC registries recognize the Bull Terrier breed standard.

Country of Origin:
Great Britain; The Bull Terrier was developed in the early 19th century orginally for bull baiters, and prior to 1835 was put in the fighting pits against other dogs, badgers and vermin. The bull terrier is originally a cross between the now extinct White English Terrier and the Bulldog. The Bull Terrier is also known as the "White Cavalier".
Character:
Bull Terriers think for themselves, are very lively, they have a clownish personality coupled with a debonair demeanour.
Temperment:
This breed gets along well with children. Provided proper social training has taken place, it gets along fine with cats or other household pets. Depending in its individual nature and upbringing, it may try to dominate other dogs. If you already own a dog, it may be unwise to purchase a Bull Terrier as a second dog. The Bull Terrier thrives on affection and makes a fine family pet for almost any size home.
Coat:
Is short-haired, flat, has a slight gloss and to the touch is even and harsh.
Care
Periodically use a rubber brush to remove dead hairs. The ears need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Provide a soft place for it to lie down.
Colour:
Orginally white or white with coloured markings, however now the preference being brindle with white markings.
