Country of Origin: Great Britain - Descended more than 400 years ago from the Isle of Skye. May be the oldest known breed of terrier. Once called the Terrier of the Western Islands. Used for tracking otter, weasel and badger. A favorite of the Scottish lairds, the Skye has been depicted by the famous artist sir Edwin Landseer and gained popularity via Queen victoria. By the 1900's, the Skye was well entrenched in Britain and the US.

Character: This dog is affectionate, loyal, and a little reserved around strangers. It makes a good watchdog.

Temperment: As long as children do not tease them, Skye Terriers get along fine with them. Provided proper socialization has taken place, this breed gets along fine with other household pets, although it may try to dominate other dogs.

Coat: The coat is double-layered. The top layer is straight and long, while the bottom layer is short, wooly and thick. Allowable colors are black or gray, or borwn and blond with dark markings on the ears, muzzle, and tail.

Care Weekly grooming with a brush is required. The hair should stay parted down the middle of the back. Excessive hair around the pads of the feet must be trimmed and the ears must be kept clean.

Colour: Solid black, platinum to dark blue grey, fawn, or cream

Comments: This is a tough terrier that dares anyone to challenge him. Skyes are tuned into their owners, but reserved with others. They often loathe being touched by strangers and they may bite. Overal length of body should be twice the height. Coat must be at least 5 1/2
