Country of Origin: Tibet (China) - Type was probably fixed in the 7th century AD during the conversion of Tibet to Buddhism. Used as temple guardians. Were sent to imperial courts of China as tokens of esteem and good fortune. Began to appear in the West around the turn of the century. Primarily used as watchdog in Tibetan palaces.

Character: Lhasa Apsos are calm, loyal, and lovable. They enjoy company, but are wary of strangers.

Temperment: This dog gets along well with children, other dogs, and any household pets.

Coat: The topcoat is long and straight. The undercoat is shorter and slightly softer.

Care The dog must be groomed thoroughly with a brush and comb twice a week. Great care must be taken to avoid breaking the hair. Keep the eyes and ears clean, and trim excess hair from between the pads of the feet.

Colour: Golden, sandy, or honey w/black tips on ear, tail, and beard

Comments: Breed tends to guard food, bite, and exhibits moodiness. Okay pet for adults that have only one pet. Calm, regal attitude. Clownish, but a bit aloof with strangers. Mature slowly and rather stubborn. Extremely devoted to their family. .
