Country of Origin: Named for the Mahlemuts, an Inuit people of northwestern Alaska. Belongs to the Spitz family.

Character: Affectionate and loyal, but sometimes mischievous.

Temperment: Get along well with children. Generally too friendly to be a good watch dog.

Coat: The outercoat is think and coarse and under-coat is greasy and wooly.

Care Use a course comb when shedding - otherwise, no grooming is required.

Colour: Black/shades of grey, commonly with lighter mask/underside

Comments: Very strong, often used for sledding and weight pulling. Not a dog for small children - older children are fine.
