Samoyeds are generally prone to hip dysplasia, diabeties and skin allergies. It is important that when contacting a Samoyed breeder that you express health concern issues and ask the breeder what they are doing in order to help mimimize them.

Please don't purchase your Samoyed from a petstore which commonly are known to support Samoyed puppy mills. Doing so only promotes inproper breeding ethics and promotes current Samoyed health issues. The AKC, UKC, FCI, CKC, SKC, WWKC, FIC registries recognize the Samoyed breed standard.

Country of Origin: Scandinavia - Used by many ancient peoples for herding reindeer and were chosen specifically for demonstrating NO hunting instincts. These dogs were later adapted for pulling and as guard and companion. Named for the momadic tribe, the Samoyedes who used the dogs to hunt, herd caribou, guard flocks and were also employed as draft and sled dogs. Introduced into Britain in 1889.

Character: This dog is a complex one. It is friendly, intelligent, and somewhat obedient, but it can be obstinate and stubborn. It can be dominant and watchful, yet sensitive and gentle-natured. Samoyeds love to bark.

Temperment: Samoyeds are gentle with children but may try to dominate other dogs. They have a strong hunting instinct so they will chase other animals. They need to be trained early to get along with your other pets.

Coat: Topcoat is straight and wiry, and the undercoat is dense and short. Can be white, cream, or white with light brown.

Care Too much brushing can harm the undercoat. A metal comb should be used to remove loose hairs during shedding.

Comments: Excellent family dog, particularly with children. Never nippy. Very energetic, lots of vitality. No doggy odor. Friendly towards strangers, never shy or skittish. Independent thinker; gets bored easily. Devoted to family. .
