The Norfolk Terrier is part of the Terrier group. The Norfolk Terrier is a dog with Average problem solving abilities. The trainability of the Norfolk Terrier is Average. It was breed to be good for Family Pet, Hunting, Protection, The Norfolk Terrier lifestyle is Adapts readily to indoor or outdoor living

Choke collars must not be used with this breed as they have sensitive tracheas. Also, adult teeth may begin to grow in over baby teeth. Some Norfolk Terriers may suffer from eye and back problems. It is important that when contacting a Norfolk Terrier breeder that you express health concern issues and ask the breeder what they are doing in order to help mimimize them.

Please don't purchase your Norfolk Terrier from a petstore which commonly are known to support Norfolk Terrier puppy mills. Doing so only promotes inproper breeding ethics and promotes current Norfolk Terrier health issues. The AKC, UKC, FCI, CKC, SKC, WWKC, FIC registries recognize the Norfolk Terrier breed standard.

Country of Origin: Great Britain - Very similar to Norwich Terrier except for ears which are dropped Small Irish Terriers were crossed with other terrier breeds. The two ear types were shown and bred together for a number of generations until problems arose. They were then separated and bred as individual types and soon two distinct breeds developed. The Norfolks became a new breed of the UKC in 1963.

Character: This dog is cheerful, lively and intelligent, and playful.

Temperment: This dog gets along with other dogs quite well. It rarely has a problem with children, and will briefly announce visitors with loud barking.

Coat: Coat is hard and wire-haired. The hair is shorter around the head and ears. Allowable colors are black with rust-brown, straw-yellow, and grey. There can be a small amount of white, although it is not preferred.

Care Regular grooming with a brush and comb is required. Excessive hair around the pads of the feet must be trimmed. Old hair must be plucked out twice a year.

Comments: This dog is alert, handsome, and charming; makes a fine companion dog. Good little watchdog that does well in a variety of environments. .
